National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 21, 2022
As we honour National Indigenous History Month here at your Toronto Zoo, we acknowledge the land we are on is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit and the Williams Treaty signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
Join us June 21, 2022 as we welcome Native Child and Family Services for special programming at the Zoo to honour National Indigenenous Peoples Day.
9:00am to 9:15am: Join us at the front entrance to start the day with a traditional smudging ceremony
10:00am – 2:00pm: Visit the First Nations Art Garden to learn more about traditional teachings, the Strawberry Moon (month of June), Summer Solstice, sacred medicines and so much more!
Plus, check out the Zoo’s Turtle Island Conservation resources on our website at https://www.torontozoo.com/tz/tic, free year-round!
